NERS Framework

The NERS Framework

You're trying to take care of yourself. So why don't you feel better?

You're making an effort. Maybe you've changed how you eat. You're exercising when you can. You're trying to sleep better, manage your stress, or be more consistent.

And still, something doesn't feel right.

So what do you do next?

Not everything. And not necessarily more. Start where you are.

Maybe this sounds familiar

You're already trying.

But when you still don't feel like yourself, it can be hard to know what to change, what to focus on first, or whether doing more is really the answer.

  • I'm tired
  • My sleep is off
  • My periods are difficult
  • My weight is changing
  • I feel bloated
  • I feel overwhelmed
  • I don't know what to focus on

Wellness advice often gives you another list of things to do. NERS starts somewhere different.

What might help from where you are today?

What is the NERS Framework?

NERS brings together four parts of everyday wellbeing: Nutrition, Exercise, Rest and Stress Management. Instead of assuming one area has all the answers, NERS helps you notice what may need your attention and choose a place to begin.

Nutrition

Nutrition is about more than following food rules. Notice how you're nourishing yourself, whether you're eating enough, what leaves you feeling supported, and what works in your actual life.

The goal isn't perfect eating. It's finding ways to nourish yourself that make sense for you.

Exercise

Movement can support your wellbeing, but more isn't automatically better. Some days you may want a workout. Some days a walk or gentle movement may fit better.

NERS gives you room to move your way, including recognizing when movement isn't what you need.

Rest

Rest isn't only sleep. It can mean slowing down, recovering, taking a break, creating space, or recognizing that you've been running on empty.

You don't have to earn rest by doing enough first.

Stress Management

Stress management isn't always about learning to tolerate more. Sometimes you need to set something down, change something, make a decision, ask for help, or say what you need.

Sometimes supporting yourself means changing what's happening around you, not just how you respond to it.

NERS is not four more things to get right.

You don't have to work on everything at once. One area may need your attention today. Tomorrow may be different.

Start where you are

What might help today?

Look at the day you're actually having. You don't have to decide what you should be working on forever.

Nutrition

You've barely eaten today.
Maybe Nutrition is where you start.

Exercise

You want to move, but a full workout doesn't fit.
Move your way.

Rest

You're exhausted and you've been pushing through.
Maybe today starts with Rest.

Stress Management

Something has been weighing on you.
Maybe you need to set it down, change it, decide it, or say what you need.

NERS in everyday life

Begin with what you need right now.

The ECO Wellness Companion puts that idea into practice. It starts with one question:

What do you need help with right now?

More energy. More rest. Less overwhelm. Easier eating. Movement that fits your day. You choose where to begin.

Different day. Different need. Same place to start: where you are.

Your way

Your wellbeing has to work in your life.

You don't have to follow a perfect routine or use the same approach every day.

What works for someone else may not fit your body, your responsibilities, your preferences, or your life.

Take what helps. Leave what doesn't.

Learn from what you try

Notice what actually helps you.

Starting where you are doesn't mean starting over every day.

Tell Companion what helped after you try something. My NERS gives you a place to see what you've tried, what's helping, and what you're noticing.

Over time, you begin learning what works for you.

Why NERS exists

NERS came from asking the same question.

Nadine Josephs PhD, founder of Eco Your Way, was already doing many of the things we're commonly told to do to take care of ourselves. She didn't eat meat and exercised almost every day.

But she was still navigating difficult periods, fatigue, weight changes, PCOS, anemia, uterine fibroids and other challenges.

That experience led her to stop looking at Nutrition and Exercise on their own and start paying attention to Nutrition, Exercise, Rest and Stress Management together.

That shift in perspective became NERS.

A note about your health: NERS and ECO Wellness are educational wellbeing tools and are not medical care. New, persistent, severe, or concerning symptoms should be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional.

You don't have to figure everything out today.

Start with where you are.
