Why Am I So Tired All the Time?
Feeling tired can make everything else feel harder.
Maybe you wake up tired. Maybe you lose energy halfway through the day. Or maybe you're getting through everything you need to do, but it takes more out of you than it used to.
If you're already trying to take care of yourself, it can be frustrating not to know what else to change.
You don't have to start by doing more.
Start by looking at what may be affecting your energy.
Start with what you're noticing
What does low energy look like for you?
Low energy doesn't look the same for everyone.
You may feel tired all day, at certain times, or after particular parts of your day.
Noticing when you feel tired and what was happening before it can give you a useful place to start.
Look at more than one thing
Energy isn't only about sleep
When you're tired, getting more sleep may be the first thing you think about.
Sleep matters. But it isn't the only part of your day worth looking at.
What and when you're eating, how much you're exercising, whether you're getting enough rest, and how much stress you're dealing with can all be useful things to notice.
Nutrition
Have you eaten enough today? Are you going long periods without eating? Notice whether when and what you eat seems to make a difference in how you feel.
Exercise
How does movement affect your energy? Sometimes moving may help you feel better. Other times, you may feel like you need to take it easy.
Rest
Are you getting enough sleep? Are you also giving yourself time to slow down or take a break when you're tired?
Stress Management
Is something taking a lot of your time, attention, or energy right now? Notice what feels especially demanding and whether anything can change.
These four areas make up the NERS Framework:
Nutrition, Exercise, Rest and Stress Management.
